      WHAT IS

 DELIVERANCE?

 DELIVERANCE: A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE

This statement is of utmost import: ALL aspects of deliverance are available only through the God-man and work of Jesus Christ, who was Himself DELIVERED UP for us (Romans 4:25) so that we might be delivered from eternal punishment for sin (i.e. break God’s curse of sin). Only Jesus rescues us from the “wrath to come” (1 Thessalonians 1:10).

I. DELIVERANCE: OLD TESTAMENT

Answer: Deliverance is defined as “a rescue from bondage or danger.” Deliverance in the Bible are acts of God whereby He rescues HIS PEOPLE from peril. In the Old Testament: He rescues His people from their enemies (1 Samuel 17:37; 2 Kings 20:6); from the hand of the wicked (Psalm 7:2; 17:13; 18:16-19; 59:2); preserves them from famine (Psalm 33:19), death (Psalm 22:19-21), and the grave (Psalm 56:13; 86:13; Hosea 13:14). The most dramatic and often-told example of deliverance is the exodus from Egypt (Exodus 3:8; 6:6; 8:10). God is called the “Deliverer of Israel” who rescues His people, not because they deserve to be rescued, but because of His mercy and love (Psalm 51:1; 71:2; 86:13). By the Old Testament alone, we can conclude that Deliverance is for the Israel (God’s people) wherein, as believers, we have been grafted in.

Romans 11:16-18 “For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches. And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert grafted in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; 18 Boast not against the branches. But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.”

II. DELIVERANCE: NEW TESTAMENT

A. DELIVERANCE FROM SIN (ETERNAL)

In the New Testament there are effectively three aspects of Deliverance. The first is only through Jesus Christ—deliverance from sin, evil, death and judgment—SALVATION.

B. DELIVERANCE FROM TRIALS (Temporal)

God knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation (2 Peter 2:9). However, the WISDOM comes from God and He commands that we DO THE WORK:

1 Corinthians 10:13 “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

2 Corinthians 10:5 “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”

C. DELIVERANCE FROM EVIL SPIRITS/DEMONS (Temporal)

Evil Spirits/Demons, also referenced as STRONGHOLDS, are:

Anti-Christ Spirit (I John 4:3)

Spirit of Bondage (Romans 8:15)

Deaf and Dumb Spirit (Mark 9:25)

Spirit of Death (1 Corinthians 15:26)

Spirit of Divination/Occult Spirit/Spirit of Witchcraft (Acts 16:16)

Spirit of Error (1 John 4:6)

Spirit of Fear (2 Timothy 1:7)

Spirit of Haughtiness/Religious Spirit (Proverbs 16:18)

Spirit of Heaviness and Root of Rejection (Isaiah 61:3)

Spirit of Infirmity (Luke 13:11)

Spirit of Jealousy (Proverbs 6:34)

Spirit of Lying (2 Chronicles 18:22)

Perverse Spirit (Isaiah 19:14)

Spirit of Prostitution and Whoredoms (Hosea 5:4)

Seducing and Deceiving Spirits (1 Timothy 4:1)

Familiar (spirits that work through Ancestral Lines through curses) Spirit (Leviticus 19:31)

True believers have ETERNAL victory over the “dominion” of sin and death. VICTORY in daily battles depends on each believer’s obedience to God’s Word. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand that disobedience is SIN, and God does not approve of sin. It is through willful, continual (practicing/being slaves to sin) unconfessed sin—the free will choice of a believer—which gives the Enemy LEGAL RIGHT to oppress a believer. Scripture explains that our right is not against flesh and blood (people) but that it is with against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Utilizing the Full Armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-18) which pivots primarily upon the Shield of Faith and the Sword of the Spirit (a/k/a Word of God) can all battles be won—that is, if the believer OBEYS God’s Word. To be delivered from demonic influence/oppression, the believer must 1) repent and renounce their “willful, continual sin,” 2) the evil spirit(s) or demon(s) must be bound and cast out by and through the authority EVERY believer has through Jesus Christ of Nazareth, and 3) the opened door must be closed and sealed with the blood of Jesus. Otherwise, the Enemy continues to have LEGAL RIGHT.

Deliverance—whether rescued from sin, trials, or direct demonic influence—is only through Jesus Christ/Yeshua, the Son of Almighty God, whose blood secures our redemption and restores a right relationship with the Great I am. We are in Him who is true—even in his Son Jesus Christ in whom we have eternal life (1 John 5:19-20)! Praise to our Captain in Battle, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Amen!!!
