Generational Curses, Part 1

I want to begin with a personal statement. I would never want to teach or share any doctrine that is not fully and completely supported by God’s Word. Why? Not because I care what anyone here on earth thinks of me or because I desire the praise of any other human being, but because I don’t want teach false doctrine – which I will (as any of us would) answer to God for it! That is serious business!!!
*********DEFINITIONS AND INTRODUCTION:
SIN/INIQUITY = OUR ACTION
CURSE = IMPOSED UPON US BY OTHERS (God, witchcraft/occult or words spoken by us) -- Seeing that curses are imposed UPON us (THROUGH WORDS/SPEAKING) and that even WE can impose curses on ourselves/others, is it no wonder why God teaches us to keep check of our tongues.
Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
James 3:10 “Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.” This is not talking about harsh language . . . it is speaking of actual curses.
Matthew 12:36 “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.”
Matthew 15:11 “Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.”
GENERATIONAL CURSE: A family/generational curse is an imposed payment or “recompense for iniquity.” It is written:
“Render unto them a recompense, O LORD, according to the work of their hands. Give them sorrow of heart, thy curse unto them. Persecute and destroy them in anger from under the heavens of the LORD” (Lamentations 3:64-66).
Generational curses are reoccurring problems that steal, kill, and destroy. You need to learn how to break a curse. Scripture is clear God visits the iniquity of the fathers upon the children up to the third and fourth generation
Exodus 20:5 “Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me”.
Curses don’t visit your family without cause. It’s a “legal” thing. Remember that Satan stands in the courtroom of Heaven accusing us before God “DAY AND NIGHT” (i.e. continually). When someone up the family tree gives spirits the right to visit because of iniquity, they come looking for a reason to mess up your life. Take courage. After family curses are exposed, Christ’s deliverance is readily available. These curses spread downward and/or across the generations.
************************SCRIPTURE USED IN ARGUMENT AGAINST GENERATIONAL CURSES AND RESPONSES:
"The LORD is longsuffering, and of great mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression, and by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation." - Numbers 14:18
RESPONSE: SPEAKS OF INIQUITY/SIN – NOT CURSES.

"In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge. But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge." - Jeremiah 31:29-30
RESPONSE: SPEAKS OF INIQUITY/SIN – NOT CURSES.

"As I live, saith the Lord God, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel. Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die." - Ezekiel 18:3-4
RESPONSE: REFERS TO SIN/DEATH – NOT CURSES.

Ezekiel 18:17-19 “That hath taken off his hand from the poor, that hath not received usury nor increase, hath executed my judgments, hath walked in my statutes; HE SHALL NOT DIE FOR THE INIQUITY (SIN) OF HIS FATHER, he shall surely live.18 As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, spoiled his brother by violence, and did that which is not good among his people, lo, even HE SHALL DIE IN HIS INIQUITY. 19 Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.”
RESPONSE: SPEAK OF SIN/INIQUITY -- NOT CURSES. Note that no one except Jesus has EVER kept ALL of God’s statutes (v 19).
Jesus came to BREAK THE CURSE OF DEATH AND SIN – we each must choose to accept Jesus for who He is, as well as His sacrifice for our sins in order to be redeemed. Even so – the following statement would be erroneous: If our father and mother before us choose to accept Jesus, it does not mean that we don’t have to. Salvation is NOT PASSED from one generation to the next. The scripture, "The son shall NOT bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son," in other words, we are accountable for our own sins. Each of us must choose to either accept or deny Christ. One more time: Sins and curses ARE NOT THE SAME THING. Comparing sins to curses is like comparing apples to oranges.

ARGUMENT AGAINST/FOR:
Quote by the one refuting generational curses:
<<The word of the LORD there makes it impossible to practice the doctrine of 'generational curses' and be under the new covenant through Christ. Simply put Christian men of God and women alike, regard it as forbidden if you value your salvation” Galatians 3:13-14 “Christ hath redeemed us from the CURSE OF THE LAW, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”>>
RESPONSE: Those who claim that generational curses have been broken by Jesus on the cross; that they no longer exist, clearly do not understand the true meaning of a curse to begin with. Indeed Jesus destroyed THE CURSE OF SIN and DEATH which curse entered in through Adam and Eve – to REDEEMED US (Romans 5:12-21), however, NOT FROM ANY OTHER IMPOSED CURSE. Other curses that exist in past generations remain. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to understand this.
Blood-bought Christians with evidence of tongues who fall back in to sins that perpetuate to their children: alcohol, pride, swearing, pornography, etc. do, in fact, exist and in great numbers. Coming to Christ does not negate these problems because 1) we STILL have free will and 2) demons can be passed on to children in the womb as well as transferred through sex.
Certainly, when the Holy Spirit moves in, He occupies the spirit of a man, but the soul is not yet redeemed (Romans 9:1-2 “I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.) and the body is changed ONLY at the last trumpet. Therefore, a demon can attach to either the soul or body (not a believer’s spirit).
Quote by one who claims that generational curses are no longer in effect:
<<Ruffly [sic] 50 years later God directly tells Ezekiel who as Jesus, was also referred to as the 'son of man' to proclaim an end to the saying being taught in that the son shall be held accountable for the sins of the father, effectively rebuking the idea of any and all generational curses. . . . For those having seen the word of the Lord (even in this message) will simply disregard it and continue in the same belief that they have learned as the truth, even though Christ became the curse for all who believe in him.>>
RESPONSE: Clearly, this person is claiming that sin and curses are the same thing. They ARE NOT the same thing. See definitions above.
